Brown Foundation Gives $300,000 Challenge

Our Room to Grow Project/Campaign has entered its final fundraising phase – Growing to our Full Potential! The James Graham Brown Foundation has “jump started” this final push with a generous challenge grant of $300,000 toward the $1.2 million needed to fully fund this much-needed  project.  However, we must raise $900,000 to receive this grant!

Raising the $900,000 needed to meet this challenge grant is absolutely critical not only because we cannot “leave $300,000 on the table,” but long term debt payments reduce the amount available to meet the critical needs of at-risk children – at a time when those needs are increasing!

Growing to our Full Potential is not primarily about money, though.  It’s about investing in the lives of at-risk children, telling them “we believe you can do great things, we see your potential, we want to offer opportunities so you can discover who and what God has created you to become.”

It’s for children such as 10-year-old Nicholas (he prefers that you call him “just Nick.”) After his father lost his full-time job, he, his little sister, and his parents moved in with his grandparents; they just couldn’t make the rent on their two-bedroom apartment with his mother’s two part-time jobs.  Nick comes to The Cabbage Patch three days every week to get help with homework, but above all, he likes to make things.  He is a frequent participant in the “Measure of a Man program (boys activities such as canoe building and model car club) and especially looks forward to Ms. Rachel’s art classes.  Nick is looking forward to the next Art Gallery (made possible with the Room to Grow Project) open house so he can show his family some of his new creations.

With a generous gift today, you can tell Nick that you believe in him and want him to “Grow to his Full Potential.” Your gift will not only make a difference in the life of Nick, but hundreds of his friends who come to The Patch each year, and for the thousands of children we will serve in the decades  to come.
