Marker dedication caps off 100th

Friends and neighbors of The Cabbage Patch literally made history with the dedication of a time capsule and historical marker on November 18. The ceremony capped off a yearlong celebration of The Patch’s 100th.

Awarded by the Kentucky Historical Society and funded in part by donations from the St. James Court Association and the Belgravia Court Association, the marker pays tribute to Patch founder Louise Marshall on one side and Mrs. Wiggs of The Cabbage Patch author and first Patch Board member Alice Hegan Rice and the neighborhood on the other.

Patch member Evan, 15, read a poem he wrote envisioning The Cabbage Patch in 100 years, still standing strong. Executive Director Tracy Holladay read his letter to the future Patch leaders.

A time capsule providing a snapshot of The Cabbage Patch in its 100th year, and including the poem, letter, and artwork by Patch member Solomon, 15, among various documents, will be housed at The Filson Historical Society until it is scheduled to be opened in 2110.
