Wellness Center dedicated thanks to teen’s initial efforts
Representatives from the Humana Foundation and The Gilbert Foundation gathered with teenager Samantha Moorin gathered to see new equipment in action at the dedication of the Physical Wellness Center on November 28.
A year-and-a-half ago, at age 13, Samantha Moorin (now 15), helped kick off fundraising efforts for the Wellness Center. Her goal was to purchase a treadmill for the spartan new space she saw when she toured The Cabbage Patch during the grand opening of the expanded facility. She hosted a party for her friends that raised $762! The Gilbert Foundation’s Candace Medina was moved by Sammy’s efforts and helped secure additional funding to purchase a commercial-grade treadmill, and then advocated on The Patch’s behalf to the Humana Foundation for funding to purchase several other pieces of cardio and strength-building equipment. The Ronald McDonald House Charities also donated a piece of equipment. But all of it traces back to Sammy’s efforts and the power of one person to make a difference!
