In order to participate in Cabbage Patch programs or access services, children must enroll in the Recreation/Youth Development Department.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, all classes and activities are free with the exception of our camps and selected field trips. New memberships are currently accepted for youth between the ages of 8 and 16 years. Children must be mature enough to be self-sufficient while involved in our self-directed activities.

Prospective members must enroll in person, Monday through Friday, 3:00 p.m.– 8:30 p.m. The entire process normally takes between 30 and 60 minutes.

The membership application and enrollment procedures include:

  1. Child must be accompanied by a legal guardian, and birth certificate must be provided.
  2. Parent/legal guardian and child complete a new member application that includes personal data and contact information.
  3. Children need to successfully complete the new member orientation program. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to actively participate as well.
  4. The parent and child will be given a tour and informed how to enroll in our structured classes. Children are expected to participate in our structured and self-directed programs and not idly hang out.
  5. Children can begin to participate immediately once the parent is comfortable with our programs and requirements. For younger children, we recommend parents recruit and help enroll their child’s neighborhood/school friends in order to help the child feel more at home and comfortable with their peers around them.
  6. Members of The Patch are expected to follow our Behavioral Code and be active participants in both our self-directed and structured programs. Members are also asked to assist staff in programs as needed in set-up and leading groups or other volunteer projects.
  7. Children who violate the Behavioral Code or the participation requirements may be suspended or have their membership withdrawn. Children who excel will be rewarded with prizes and/or treats or given priority for selected programs and field trips.

After becoming a member, children may sign themselves in at the recreation reception desk and may participate in our Educational Opportunities Program and/or receive individual and group counseling and classes in social and life skills. Selected parents, who have children active in the Recreation Program, may also be eligible to participate in our Family Service activities.
