We are thrilled to announce that we have a Governor’s Scholar in our midst! Janae, a long-time Cabbage Patch member who is active in our Leadership Development program, has been selected as one of Kentucky’s outstanding rising seniors.
The Governor’s Scholars Program strives to enhance Kentucky’s next generation of civic and economic leaders. Established in 1983, the program provides academic and personal growth through the balance of a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience.
We caught up with Janae to share her excitement in being chosen as a Governor’s Scholar, and ask her a few questions!
Q: Janae, how did you find out that you were selected for the program?
A: I had just gotten back from working with Brightside on a neighborhood cleanup when I got the letter! My mom and I thought that I must not have gotten in, because it came in a small envelope. But then we read it and it said “Congratulations!”
Q: Besides your mom, who was the first person you told?
A: I called Ms. Mayghin (The Cabbage Patch Manager of Educational Opportunities) and she started screeching on the phone!
Q: How did The Cabbage Patch help you on your journey to becoming a Governor’s Scholar?
A: Ms. Brandi (The Cabbage Patch Educational Opportunities Specialist) was once a Governor’s Scholar, so she gave me great advice and was able to help with the recommendation letter.
Q: What subjects will you focus on while you are in the program?
A: I will be studying communications and health. My goal is to become a nurse practitioner.
We are so proud of Janae and we feel blessed to be part of her academic achievements. Her success is an inspiration to the younger children of The Patch and a wonderful example of what can be accomplished when one truly commits to education. Congratulations, Janae!
