The Christmas spirit is sweeping through The Cabbage Patch as members celebrate the holiday season through arts, crafts, baking, singing and partying! Each night featured different and unique parties that showcase the talents of our Patch kids.
The week kicked off Monday with Seed to Table hosting “A Night of 1,000 Cookies” to sprinkle chocolatey and sugary goodness throughout the week. Program staff and volunteers corralled a small army of bakers to mix the dough, add in the chocolate chips and other fixings and toss them in the oven. And only a few chocolate chips went missing — for taste testing, of course!
On Tuesday, the community was invited to an Art Show
featuring the work of our Cabbage Patch members. From crayons and colored pencils to markers and sculptures and more, we have a talented group of young creatives who got to show off their hard work. Everyone shared a note of affirmation with an artist they liked, sharing what pieces stood out to them and why. And of course, we ended the night by enjoying some of the cookies baked by Seed to Table.
Wednesday brought our annual Christmas Party,
with food, games and lots of interactive stations to visit. Cabbage Patch members got to eat pizza, decorate sugar cookies and make snow and friendship bracelets. They also got some energy out by playing basketball, jumping in the bounce house, or trying their hand at giant Jenga and Connect Four. Before leaving, everyone picked their own Christmas gifts to take home, generously donated by Toys for Tots.
Finally, program staff hosted the annual Christmas Talent Show.
The performing arts group led off with a hilarious sketch titled “Elves on Strike” in which Santa is put in a tough spot when his elves demand fair pay, time off and better working conditions. The skit was followed by an energetic tap performance to the modern Christmas classic, “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey. The show also featured community members singing and playing instruments to modern and traditional Christmas songs. The show culminated in a one-on-one dance off with a classical twist.
The week would not have been possible without the amazing work of our program staff, board members, Patch Partners and volunteers. Our deep thanks go out to everyone who helped bring Christmas Week to life.
Christmas Week here at the Cabbage Patch is about more than just a series of events, as Director of Programs Brandi Giles reminds us. “It’s a celebration of joy, community, and love. For our kids and families, it’s a time to create lasting memories, build connections, and experience the magic of the season in a way that feels uniquely theirs. It’s not just about the parties and the presents; it’s about the sense of belonging and connection unique to all Patch kids.” As we make our way through the hustle and bustle of Christmas, let’s stop and remember what the season is really all about, from The Patch to our homes and to everyone around the world.
