At The Cabbage Patch, all of our clients are unique, but many share common circumstances. When you support Christmas assistance you are helping families who typically:
* Are headed by a single parent, approximately 42 years of age
* Include 2-3 children
* Are supported by a net annual income of $18,147
* Run on a deficit of $38 per month…this adds up!
These families have to juggle their expenses. One month, they may pay the LGE bill but go without internet. The next month, they may pay for oil changes and car repairs but forgo the convenience of a cell phone. Forget about any kind of savings-it’s just not feasible. These are hardworking people, employed at places like schools, hotels and hospitals, but they are just not making living wages.
Enter Christmas, a time for celebrating family and God’s greatest gift to the world. At school, children are surrounded by peers who are picking out the latest shoe styles, electronic devices or toys that they want to see under the tree. Parents can’t miss the advertisements that promise the most memorable holiday ever…if you buy their new and improved merchandise. Imagine if you had to explain to your children that Christmas just isn’t in the budget this year.
Your support of Christmas assistance at The Patch means that these families can stop worrying and enjoy the holiday together. Parents receive new coats and boots that their children can be proud to wear when they return to school from holiday break. Memories are made when there is, after all, something in the Christmas stocking. Even if you can give only a little, to our Patch parents and children, it means a lot.
